Thirasia is known for its picturesque villages and traditional Cycladic architecture. Manolas, the island’s capital, is particularly charming, perched on a cliff with stunning views of the Aegean Sea. Explore the narrow alleyways and whitewashed houses while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The traditional settlement of Potamos above Riva features many blue-domed churches at its center, along with cave-style houses built right into the rock.
The abandoned village of Agrillia is the oldest and was once the largest village on Thirasia. Although it’s uninhabited now, visitors can see the remains of cave houses and cellars that have been overtaken by nature, providing a hauntingly beautiful scene. At its entrance is one of the Aegean’s most elaborately decorated churches. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary was built in 1887.
