Corfu
The Isle of Corfu is the northernmost of the Ionian Islands, surrounded by the glistening aquamarine-hued waters of the Aegean. It’s jam-packed with mythology, history, culture and scenic natural beauty, including everything from bird-filled lagoons and idyllic beaches to magnificent waterfalls. Old Town Corfu transports visitors back in time with its impressive fortifications and architecture influenced by the Venetians, Sicilians, French and British, while offering a host of fantastic hotels and restaurants. From here enjoy day trips to Paxoi Island, a tiny jewel just a few nautical miles south. Known as the romantic hideaway of the god Poseidon, it boasts a spectacular array of colors, picture-perfect beaches and a dazzlingly clear turquoise sea so surreal it must be seen to be believed.
Spetses
Just a couple of hours by ferry from Athens, Spetses is known as the island of aromas with pine-covered hills, lemon trees lining winding, narrow lanes, and salty sea breezes. Setting the perfect scene for romance, it’s ideal for a spring, summer or autumn honeymoon. It’s also practically vehicle-free, with only a few locals allowed to use them, and only outside of the harbor area. Many get around on two wheels, by foot or in a horse and buggy, creating an idyllic tranquil atmosphere for enjoying beautiful beaches and feasting on the fresh catch at one of the fabulous eateries along the seaside promenade. The Old Port offers peaceful strolls with classical, neoclassical and modern buildings constructed in harmony with the natural landscape. On the west side of the island, the adventurous can even swim into a cave to enjoy a little sand beach, intense blue waters and stalagmites.
