Day by Day Itinerary
Welcome to one of the world’s greatest cities. You’ll be met by private transfer upon arrival into Athens International Airport for the drive to your Athens hotel. Once there, you can do as you wish but we recommend taking the opportunity to climb the Acropolis. It’s the perfect way to show the kids the birthplace of democracy, traveling back in time to ancient Athens to discover the iconic Parthenon, the Odeon of Herodes, Temple of Athena Nike and the Theatre of Dionysus. Your visit can be complemented by the New Acropolis Museum which even provides family backpacks with education games. There’s a Lego model of the Acropolis, a reading corner for the kids and a family-friendly restaurant too.
Hop on the ferry to Rhodes which offers an intriguing mix of historic treasures and dazzling natural beauty, including the world-renowned Valley of Butterflies, a lush green valley dotted with waterfalls that’s home to countless butterflies. As you’ll have the rest of the day at your leisure, you might want to explore it or simply enjoy wandering along the cobblestone streets Medieval Rhodes Town, one of Europe’s most well-preserved Venetian towns. If you want to enjoy the beach, Lindos Beach is especially family-friendly and within walking distance from the main square. It hosts Greek tavernas, umbrellas, lounge chairs and water sports facilities. If you’re so inclined, you can even rent a motorboat or paddleboat to get out on the water.
Old City Rhodes is, a fairytale-like town filled with magical delights. Today you’ll get to experience it and more on a guided walking tour that will bring you to the major highlights. Your inspirational guide will reveal the stories behind the landmarks you’re admiring, including the ancient Acropolis in Lindos Village, the Temple of Apollo, the ancient stadium and theater. At the Temple of Pythion Apollo, the sweeping panoramic vista of the sea and the city is absolutely jaw-dropping. You’ll also visit a Byzantine Monastery before strolling through Old Town Rhodes, experiencing the Street of Knights & the Palace of the Grand Masters, complete with a photo-op next to the Suleiman Mosque, the symbol of its past Ottoman rule.
Say goodbye to Rhodes, catching a flight to Mykonos via Athens. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, perhaps relaxing on one of the many fabulous beaches like Agrari Beach, particularly ideal for bringing the kids thanks to its typically calm waters. It offers water sports, a café, bar and playground too. Panormos Beach hosts outstanding restaurants and a trendy beach club with huge bean bags that are always a hit with children. Be sure to capture a photo in Little Venice, with the row of buildings constructed right at the edge of the Aegean. This was once a popular spot for pirates who unloaded and loaded goods here frequently during the 16th and 17th centuries.
You’re unlikely to have difficulty getting the kids up this morning with the exciting adventure that lies ahead today. You’ll be able to explore the remote, rarely visited areas of Mykonos in a 4X4, a thrilling but family-friendly ride that brings breathtaking views from the island’s higher altitude areas. Parents can enjoy sipping homemade wine, and everyone is sure to enjoy the tasty BBQ lunch featuring all sorts of delicious food and drink that will be hosted on a beautiful beach. There will be plenty of opportunities to swim in those enticing crystal-clear blue waters, sunbathing and playing in the sand.
Another highlight on the itinerary is enjoyed today – a full day of sailing. Nearly always a hit with everyone in the family, you’ll get to enjoy relaxation along with active pursuits while taking in some of the most beautiful sights in the Greek Islands. The excursion includes visits to Rhenia and Delos islands, the latter of which is considered one of the most sacred ancient sites in Greece. The entire island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to fascinating ruins, primarily dating to the 5th-century BC, including temples, statues, a theater, temples and mosaics. Gorgeous Rhenia is famous for its idyllic beaches that you’ll get to take advantage of too. Lunch, meze and some drinks are included.
Enjoy a relaxing morning and then get ready to board your flight to Athens at mid-day or in the afternoon. Explore the city independently after you’ve checked into your hotel, perhaps taking in some of the sights you might have missed when you first arrived. Riding the Athens Happy Train is a fun way to see many of the city’s most famous ancient sights. A sightseeing tour, the entertaining and educational ride is taken aboard a toy-like street train. It rolls from Syntagma Square, following a route through the historical center, including old and interesting neighborhoods as well as Acropolis Hill.
Prepare to make your return, taking private transfer after breakfast and checking out of your hotel back to Athens International Airport. From here you can catch your flight home or continue your travels elsewhere. We’re always happy to make recommendations if you haven’t made your plans.
