Destination Guide
Rhodes
The largest of the Dodecanese islands, Rhodes enjoys 300 days of sunshine and endless beautiful beaches from sandy to pebble stretches, but that can be found in many places across Greece. What makes it stand out from the rest is that it’s one of the best for history enthusiasts, with an incredible abundance of historic treasures that can be discovered. While it is quite developed and has become increasingly cosmopolitan, there is evidence of the island’s long history scattered throughout, with almost every destination offering a unique slice and myths to explore.
Rhodes offers an idyllic mix of striking natural beauty and historic gems, with plenty of opportunities to soak up the Mediterranean sunshine on one of its many picturesque beaches and places like the world-famous Valley of Butterflies, a lush, green valley with beautiful waterfalls, a small river, and countless butterflies. Seven Springs provides also provides a cool respite from the heat of the summer with water flowing from the spring year-round. Mount Atavyros, the highest mountain on the island, is home to scenic walking paths and offers stunning views of the island and beyond for hikers.
Medieval Rhodes Town is among Europe’s most well-preserved Venetian towns and is especially atmospheric. Its old city, located on the northern side of the island, has a web of cobbled streets that bring visitors back to the days of the Byzantine Empire. Street of the Knights is lined with some of the most impressive medieval relics on Earth, built over an ancient pathway leading directly from the Acropolis to the port. There are many other villages on the island that have managed to retain the traditional character, from popular Lindos, known for its clifftop acropolis to Archangelos, one of the most faithful to old traditions where bread is still baked in old wood-fired ovens while the crafts of grandparents are kept alive.
