Greece Travel Restrictions
Greece Coronavirus Travel Updates
This extensive travel hub for leisure travel to Greece, has the most current information available regarding travel requirements for entry to Greece in 2022 and is updated regularly, as soon as the information becomes available.
In 2019, there were 31.3 million international visitors to Greece, an increase from 24 million in 2015 and Greece and her islands had become one of the most popular destinations in the world. Due to the global events in 2020 and with the closing of the borders and travel restrictions that affected the entire globe, visitor numbers fell.
Greece closed its borders on March 18th 2020 and brought in a quarantine scheme to control the virus. The positive result of this quarantine scheme was that the country was able to open up for tourism as the summer approached and the number of cases to the virus were minimized. Greece is principally a summer destination and the economy relies heavily on international tourism so fortunately the country did experience a tourist season in 2020.
Greece was one of the only major European countries, welcoming a significant number of tourists from July through to October 2020. For many of the islands including Corfu, Kos, Zakynthos and Rhodes, it was business as normal for much of the summer and the reports from our clients and staff based on the ground, was that the service provided by the locals was as welcoming as ever, if not more so.
In 2021 Greece experienced a very successful season with visitor numbers up almost to the levels experienced pre-pandemic and the country is expecting a very strong 2022 season with a large number of bookings from all nationalities.
Since March 15 2022 completion of the Passenger Locator Form prior to arrival is no longer compulsory.
