Destination Guide
Corfu
Located in the turquoise waters of the Adriatic off the northwest coast of Greece, Corfu is jam-packed with scenic natural beauty, history, culture and mythology. Here you’ll discover everything from picturesque waterfalls, bird-filled lagoons and sandy beaches like Lefkimmi and Issos along the west coast to whitewashed fishing villages and impressive Venetian buildings. The most popular of the Ionian Islands, it’s also the greenest and one of the best when it comes to diving, especially around Othoni, Paleokastritsa and the northeast coast.
A favorite island for many, Corfu, the northernmost of the major Ioanian islands, is especially colorful from the azure waters that lap rocky shorelines in secluded coves to soaring emerald mountains and magnificent pink-hued Venetian buildings. Whitewashed homes are often draped in bougainvillea and lavender wisteria while the fragrance of jasmine wafts throughout the salty-sea air. Not surprisingly, it inspired countless creative types like artists and has attracted plenty of VIPs, including royalty. Its lively capital city, Corfu Town, hosts multiple upscale eateries and stylish hotels along with architecture that reveals its centuries of Venetian, French and British rule. While it was bombed during Nazi and Italian occupation during the Second World War, it remains one of the most captivating towns in all of Greece. The island’s interior has managed to remain mostly unspoiled, a place where visitors can discover ancient olive groves and forested cliffs along with endless sea views and charming farmhouses, making for an idyllic blend of sophistication and simplicity. Travelers searching for a mix of nature, history, and nightlife won’t be disappointed – in fact, many fall head over heels in love, and find themselves returning again and again to enjoy Corfu’s many delights.

The islands are classified under Natura.
